Sarasota Asbestos Testing & Abatement
Sarasota asbestos testing and abatement program is highly regulated
Sarasota County is one of eight Florida counties to enact additional program requirements for asbestos testing and asbestos abatement. Sarasota County requires that a thorough asbestos survey be conducted by a licensed asbestos consultant on demolition and renovation projects prior to performing any demolition or renovation work. It mandates that a copy of the survey be kept on site for the duration of the demolition/renovation activity whether or not asbestos is found.
Asbestos abatement is regulated through the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and enforced in the State of Florida by the Florida Department of Environment Protection (FDEP).
In the Sarasota asbestos testing and abatement program, the County also requires Asbestos Project Notification. The Asbestos Project Notification Form must be completed in accordance with the instructions accompanying the form. This form can be obtained from Sarasota County Air Quality.
Demolition
The Form must be submitted for any demolition activity, even when no asbestos is found during the survey.
Renovation
The Form is required only if regulated (friable) asbestos above the threshold amounts of 160 square feet, 260 linear feet or 35 cubic feet is found during the survey and will be disturbed.
